The first five are cast in metal and the other two may be fabricated using other materials

Major Connector

It is defined as,"A part of a removable partial denture which connects the components on one side of the arch to the components on the opposite side of the arch"—GPT.

It is the largest and most important component of the removable partial denture. The major connector functions to connect all the other component parts of the prosthesis and provide indirect retention.

Rest It is defined as,"A rigid extension of a fixed or removable par- tial denture which contacts a remaining tooth or teeth to dis- sipate vertical or horizontal forces"—GPT.

Minor Connector

It is defined as,"The connecting link between the major con- nector or base of a removable partial denture and other units of the prosthesis, such as clasps, indirect retainers and occlusal rests"—GPT. It is the component, which connects the other compo- nents of the removable partial denture to the major con- nector.28 Minor connectors can be of four types namely: 1. Minor connectors that connect the direct retainer to the major connector. 2. Minor connectors that connect auxiliary rests to major connectors. 3. Minor connectors that connect the denture base to the major connector. 4. Minor connectors that extend as the approach arm of a bar clasp
