Definition¶
Complete denture (CD) prosthodontics or full denture pros- thetics is defined as "The replacement of the natural teeth in the arch and their associated parts by artificial substitutes" —GPT.
Complete denture is defined as "A dental prosthesis which replaces the entire dentition and associated structures of the maxilla and mandible"—GPT.

Denture base¶
It is defined as,"That part of a denture which rests on the oral mucosa and to which teeth are attached"—GPT

The part of denture base that extends form the cervical ends if the teeth to the denture border Labial flage Buccal flage Lingual flage
Labial flage= The flage of denture which occupies the labial vestibule of mouth V -shaped notch is provided in the labial flage to accomodate labial fernum Buccal flage = The flage of denture which occupies the buccal vestibule of mouth Cheeck support V -shaped Relief is provided to accomodate the buccal fernum Lingual flage= The flage of mandibular denture which occupies the alvelolingual sulcus. surfaces of CD¶
A CD has the following three surfaces (Fig. 1.1): 1. Intaglio surface 2. Cameo surface 3. Occlusal surface
Impression surface (Intaglio surface): It is defined as,"That portion of the denture surface which has its contour determined by the impression"—GPT.
Polished surface (Cameo surface): It is defined as, "That portion of a surface of a denture which extends in an occlusal direction from the border of the denture and include the palatal surface. It is the part of the denture base which is usually polished, and it includes the buccal and lingual surfaces of the teeth"-GPT
Occlusal surface: It is defined as,"That portion of the surface of a denture or dentition which makes contact or near contact with the corresponding surface of the opposing denture or dentition"—GPT.
