Spatial Anchoring
Principle: Anatomical positions can be assigned spatial coordinates.
Objective: To define the exact location of structures in 2D or 3D space for simulation and mapping.
Method: Coordinate Geometry
introduction¶
Just like Anatomical Planes & Landmark Systems
Sagittal Plane: divides left/right
Coronal Plane: divides front/back
Transverse Plane: divides top/bottom
Used to describe positions like: Stomach is inferior to diaphragm, anterior to spine, and left of midline"
We use
X-axis: Patient's Left (+) to Right (−)
Y-axis: Posterior (+) to Anterior (−)
Z-axis: Foot (+) to Head (−)
